The
Butterfly Ball - the concert - Roger Glover & Guests
The live production of The Butterfly Ball took place at the Royal Albert Hall on 16 October 1975. The concert was a charity performance in aid of Bud Flanagan's Leukaemia Fund and Action Research for the Crippled Child. Vincent Price narrated. Roger Glover was able to get most of the artists who had taken part in the studo recordings to perform.
Little Chalk Blue was recorded with John Lawton (later of Uriah Heep) on vocals, and released as a single to promote the concert. It was later added in to CD versions of the album at the point it was performed.
Ronnie James Dio was unable to perform at the last moment, and instead Ian Gillan took the stage to a standing ovation, forcing Vincent Price to halt his narration. This event encouraged Ian Gillan to return to his rock music roots.
Tony Ashton performed 'Together Again', a drinking song for newts, In addition Twiggy sang 'Homeward' the closing number.

The concert was filmed and released through British Lion the
following year. Produced and directed by
Tony
Klinger, later was associate producer of The Who's The Kids are Alright, the film
appears to be something of an embarrassment (through the misguided insertion of
people prancing around in animal costumes) and perhaps best forgotten, which is
sad as the concert itself must have been a wonderful event. You can read more about it
